Tooth decay forms when an inadequate or inconsistent oral hygiene routine allows the natural bacteria in your mouth to exploit the tooth enamel. This tends to start in textured areas where plaque and residual food particles can become trapped. If a significant amount of enamel is compromised, your dentist, Drs. Spartak Delakyan, might recommend restoring the tooth with a dental crown in N. Hollywood, California.

This two-step process starts with Drs. Spartak Delakyan examining the tooth and taking some X-rays. Assuming the decay has not penetrated the interior structures of the tooth, they can begin the process of forming an abutment. This is done by using a drill to remove the majority of the tooth enamel, leaving behind the healthy core.

Once this is done, they will create a detailed impression of the abutment and any related teeth. Then, the abutment will be covered by a hard, plastic, temporary crown. The impression will be sent off to the dental lab where your permanent crown will be made.

When your crown is ready, Drs. Spartak Delakyan will call you back into Toluca Dental Studio for the second phase of the process. During this appointment, they will remove the temporary crown and will cement your permanent crown into place. With the proper care and cleaning, your newly restored tooth should last you many years.
