How long have you been brushing your teeth? Like most people, you’ve probably brushed for as long as you can remember, but did you know that many people make brushing mistakes? To help you avoid these problems—and to help you keep your teeth as clean as possible—we’re happy to address a few of the most common mistakes.
For example, did you know you could be damaging your gums if you brush too hard or use a toothbrush with bristles that are too firm? Similarly, did you know that you should buy a new toothbrush every three or four months? When choosing your new toothbrush, please choose one with soft bristles and a head you can navigate comfortably in your mouth.
Similarly, the toothpaste you use is important. For example, while there isn’t anything wrong with whitening toothpaste, it won’t help you fight tooth decay. To prevent this problem, alternate your whitening toothpaste with one containing fluoride.
Finally, do you spit your toothpaste out then rinse your mouth when you’re done brushing? If so, you’re right to spit your toothpaste out, but would you be surprised to learn that you don’t need to rinse your mouth out? Rinsing won’t hurt your teeth, but the more time your teeth stay in contact with fluoride the better.
